Depart Arusha after breakfast for Tarangire National Park. The park's river systems and open savannah provide excellent game viewing on arrival, with large elephant herds, giraffes, and numerous predator species. A first afternoon drive sets the pace for the week.

Drive into the Ngorongoro highlands and descend into the crater floor for a full afternoon game drive. The crater's concentration of wildlife — lions, rhinos, hippos, flamingos at Lake Magadi — makes it one of the most rewarding single-day experiences on any Tanzania safari.

Travel south into Ndutu as the landscape opens into the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti. During calving season, the wildebeest herds are enormous and predator activity is intense. Game viewing typically begins well before reaching camp.
