Great Migration

The river crossing season from July to October is the most dramatic period of the Great Migration. More than a million wildebeest gather near the Mara River in the northern Serengeti, making repeated attempts to cross into Kenya and back. This safari positions you at the crossings for three days.

Arusha → Tarangire National Park

Drive from Arusha into Tarangire National Park for your first afternoon game drive. Tarangire is a strong opening to any Tanzania safari, with some of the largest elephant herds in East Africa and a remarkable diversity of wildlife along the river.
Meals Included
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
01
Tarangire → Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro
Drive to Ngorongoro and descend into the crater for an afternoon game drive within the walls of this ancient caldera. The crater's dense wildlife population — lions, rhinos, hippos, flamingos — provides outstanding game viewing in a concentrated area.
Meals Included
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
02
Ngorongoro → Central Serengeti
Central Serengeti
Enter the Serengeti through the western edge of the conservation area, with game viewing continuing from the vehicle as the landscape opens into open plains. By July, much of the migration has pushed north and the central Serengeti remains excellent for resident predators and plains game.
Meals Included
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
03
Central Serengeti → Northern Serengeti
Northern Serengeti
Drive north through the Serengeti toward the Mara River region. The journey itself passes through areas of high wildlife concentration as the herds move through the landscape. Arrive at camp in the northern Serengeti — from here, the river crossings are within reach.
Meals Included
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
04
Full Day at Northern Serengeti
Northern Serengeti
A full day in the northern Serengeti with your guide tracking herd movement along the Mara River. River crossings happen unpredictably — the wildebeest gather, turn back, and gather again before something triggers a crossing. Your guide's experience in reading the herds is what gives you the best chance of witnessing one.
Meals Included
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
05
Full Day at Northern Serengeti
Northern Serengeti
A second full day along the Mara River to increase your chances of witnessing a crossing. Even without a crossing, the northern Serengeti is outstanding wildlife country — resident lions, elephants, giraffes, and crocodiles are seen throughout the day.
Meals Included

Northern Serengeti → Arusha (Flight)
Arusha
A final short morning drive before transferring to Kogatende airstrip for the scheduled flight back to Arusha via Seronera. Three days in the northern Serengeti provides a genuine chance of witnessing one of the natural world's most extraordinary events.
